Tiniyak ng Commission on Human Rights (CHR) ang pagsusulong sa mga karapatan, kalayaan at maging kaligtasan ng media practitioners sa bansa.
Inihayag ito ni CHR Chairperson Richard Palpal-latoc sa National Media Forum na inorganisa ng Kumisyon sa mga Karapatang Pantao para sa mga mamamahayag.
Ayon sa opisyal, layunin ng pagtitipon na matalakay at makagawa ng mga hakbang upang tugunan ang mga suliranin, hamon, at usaping kinahaharap ng mga media practioner sa bansa partikular na ang pagiging lantad sa iba’t ibang uri ng kapahamakan.
“It aims to serve as a platform for the open discussion of issues and challenges confronting media professionals, it seeks to pinpoint strategies and mechanism to safeguard rights and well-being of media workers and we are hopeful that through this activity we can accomplish, enhance partnership and cooperation with media workers and organizations.” pahayag ni CHR Chairperson Richard Palpal-latoc.
Tinukoy ng opisyal ang karahasan at kapahamakang kinahaharap ng media practitioners kabilang na ang pagharap sa kasong libel at cyber-liber, red-tagging, harassment, at iba’t ibang uri ng mga pagbabanta.
“The 1987 Constitution protects the freedom of speech, of expression, and of the press, yet on the ground and in practice libel and cyber-libel suits are used to harassed journalists; critical and hard-hitting media end up being red-tagged; critics are called communists; and media killings, harassment and threats continues.” Dagdag pa ni Palpal-latoc.
Tiniyak ni Palpal-Latoc na kaisa ng mga media practitioners C-H-R sa pagsusulong ng karapatang pantao, pananagutan, at katarungang panlipunan gayundin sa hangaring magkaroon ng isang mapayapa, ligtas at masaganang bansa.

Kinilala ng Kumisyon ang mahalagang tungkulin ng mga mamamahayag sa pagsusulong hindi lamang ng kapayapaan, kaayusan, at katapatan kundi ng mismong demokrasya ng bansa.
Bilang kongkretong hakbang sa layunin ng pagtitipon ay nagkaroon din ng Signing of the Memorandum of Agreement and Data Sharing Agreement ang Commission on Human Rights at ang Presidential Task Force on Media Security.
Tinatayang umabot sa mahigit 100 mga kinatawan mula sa iba’t ibang organisasyon at media institution kabilang na ang himpilan ng Radyo Veritas ang dumalo sa naganap na National Media Forum ng CHR.
