Radio Veritas 846, the leading faith-based AM radio station in the Philippines, will air a special programming on January 8 and 9, 2017 to commemorate the “Traslacion” or the transfer of the miraculous image of the Black Nazarene from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church in Manila.
With the theme, “Pag-ibig ang buklod ng ganap na pagkakaisa – Col. 3:14” the station’s special programming will start on January 8, 2017 at11:00pm. The religious program, “Healing Touch” with Rev. Fr. Larry Faraon will talk on topics about the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
At 12 midnight of January 9, Radio Veritas will broadcast live the Holy Mass to be presided by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, D.D. from the Quirino Grandstand.
The public affairs program “Veritas Pilipinas” will discuss topics about the Feast of the Black Nazarene and will give updates on the security measures being practiced during the procession from 6am to 8am.
The public affairs program, “Barangay Simbayanan” will feature parishes with
Nazareno image and will give updates on other places where devotees will hold Traslacion for the Black Nazarene such as in Cagayan De Oro, Tagum City sa Davao at sa Catarman Northern Samar from 8am to 10am.
Meanwhile, the magazine program, “Pamilya Mo, Pamilya Ko” will feature stories of faith and families with devotion to the Nazareno from 10am to 12nn.
Updates and reports from Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park, Manila where the traditional “Pahalik” (kissing of the image of the Black Nazarene) will happen and updates from the Quiapo Church will be aired throughout the day.
The special coverage of Radio Veritas on the “Traslacion” will continue until the Black Nazarene returns to Quiapo Church. The celebration of the Holy Mass immediately after the image of the Black Nazarene has re-entered the Quiapo Church will also be aired live over Radio Veritas.
The Black Nazarene is a life-sized, dark-colored, wooden sculpture of Jesus Christ that was brought to Manila by Augustinian priests in 1607. Tradition holds that it got its color after it was burned in a fire that hit the Spanish galleon carrying it. The image of black Nazarene is currently enshrined in the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila.
The Black Nazarene has been known to be miraculous by its Filipino devotees. People believe that whoever touched the Nazarene during its feast sometimes has been healed of their diseases. It is being attended by millions of devotees, making it as one of the country’s biggest annual religious procession.
The procession commemorates the first parade transferring the statue from a church in Intramuros to Quiapo Church on January 9, 1797.
