The Secretary General of the World Apostolic Congress on Mercy (WACOM) will visit the Philippines until December 3, 2016 for the preparation for the international event, WACOM 4 to be held in the country.
Within the duration of his stay in the country, Rev. Fr. Patrice Chocholski is set to visit the venues of the upcoming international gathering, WACOM 4 namely: Manila Cathedral (January 16, 2016), University of Santo Tomas (January 17), National Shrine of Padre Pio in Santo Tomas, Batangas (January 18), National Shrine of the Divine Mercy in the Diocese of Malolos (January 19) and in the Diocese of Balanga (January 20).
Fr. Chocholski is also the Rector of the Shrine of the Cure of Ars in France. He is a well-known lecturer and theologian on the Divine Mercy message and has authored two books focusing on God’s mercy: At the Source of Mercy – a Christian and Interreligious Approach and Pray Fifteen Days with St. Faustina. He is also the founder of the “Fountains of Mercy” project that brings together Jewish and Muslim leaders in France to share their belief in the mercy of God.
WACOM is an international gathering of Divine Mercy devotees and promoters such as bishops, priests, religious brothers and sisters and the laity. Convened every three years, the Philippines is privileged to host the 4th WACOM from January 16 to 20, 2017. With the theme, “Communion in Mercy; Mission for Mercy”, WACOM4 aims to accelerate the culture of mercy in the Church and in the world.
As the bastion of Christianity in Asia and the world’s third-largest Catholic population, the Philippines is presenting WACOM 2017 as a “Pilgrimage of Mercy” that will bring thousands of expected delegates from around the world to different holy places each day. This Congress offers an opportunity for all to be oriented to the Filipino’s lived faith in Jesus, the Divine Mercy Incarnate.
WACOM was first introduced by the Vatican on April 2-6 2008 in Rome, Italy. It coincided with the third death anniversary of St. Pope John Paul II. From then on, mercy congresses have been sustained on a regular basis so that after every world congress was followed by a continental congress on the following year by a national congress then back to another world congress.
