Gospel Reading for May 13, 2024 – John 16: 29-33
NEVER AGAIN
The disciples said to Jesus, “Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of speech. Now we realize that you know everything and that you do not need to have anyone question you. Because of this we believe that you came from God.” Jesus answered them, “Do you believe now? Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived when each of you will be scattered to his own home and you will leave me alone. But I am not alone, because the Father is with me. I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.”

When Jesus was finally arrested, all but 1 of his 12 disciples fled and hid somewhere. They were scattered. They couldn’t fight for Jesus for fear of the Jews who might come after them too. But, even if the Holy Spirit hadn’t yet been sent on Pentecost Day, Jesus found them together after he resurrected. They probably remembered what Jesus said in the gospel of today: To take courage in the midst of trouble because he has conquered the world.
As Christians, we meet a lot of challenges to our Faith, which has worsened because of the growing lack of moral fibre by those in legislation, too much modernization, too much advancement in technology such as artificial intelligence (AI), and so many others. But, Jesus tells us to take courage in the midst of trouble because he has conquered the world. NEVER AGAIN will Satan be successful in pulling humanity down, because when Adam and Eve fell, he succeeded, or so he thought. What he did not know was that it wasn’t the end for humanity, but it was actually the beginning of God’s plan of salvation. Each and everyone of us, until now, are counted in this loving plan of God.
Lord Jesus, may we learn to be grateful that we are part of God’s plan of salvation by doing our part to save and be saved!
