Gospel Reading for June 26, 2024 – Matthew 7: 15-20
WHAT REALLY MATTERS
Jesus said to his disciples: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So by their fruits you will know them.”

We may be attending the Eucharistic Celebration everyday and are members of various church organizations, or active in church activities, but WHAT REALLY MATTERS is the way we live our lives. How are we with our family? How do we treat the househelp? How do we relate to our neighbor? How are we in our places of work? How do we respond to people in dire need of help? As is often said, “we are what we eat.” If we truly receive Jesus in the Eucharist everyday, then, shouldn’t our lives be like that of Jesus?
It would be good for parents or surrogate parents to ponder on this gospel reading. We cannot expect our children to grow up good and God-fearing, if we ourselves are not.
Lord, may our lives be full of you always!
