Gospel Reading for July 26, 2024 – Matthew 13: 16-17
GREAT BLESSING
Jesus said to his disciples: “But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear: Amen, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”

To have eyes of faith that see beyond the ordinary, and ears that hear beyond the ordinary, is indeed a GREAT BLESSING! To be able to recognize there is a God we do not actually see but see in all created things around us, including this planet on which we live, and to be able to hear the voice of God beyond the sounds we hear around us whenever we pray to him, is something we have to be very grateful for. It gives our life meaning, and gives us direction, especially because his Son Jesus, who assured us that “I and the Father are one” (John 10: 30) left us a legacy – God’s Word/The Bible where we may know more about God, hear from him, and enrich our faith further.
Today, we celebrate the Memorial of Sts. Joachim and Anne, parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Surely, they brought up Mary having such eyes and such ears that’s why even if what the angel told her at the Anunciation, troubled her, she gave her YES without doubting what she heard. If parents would only follow their example, there will be so many like Mary, making our world such a wonderful and peaceful place to live in.
Thank you, Lord, for the ability to see and hear beyond the ordinary!
