Gospel Reading for September 23, 2024 – Luke 8: 16-18

ACCOUNTABLE

Jesus said to the crowd: “No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel or sets it under a bed; rather, he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible, and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light. Take care, then, how you hear. To anyone who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he seems to have will be taken away.”

————

However expensive a lamp is, it loses its worth if it isn’t used. However plenty the gifts we received from God, and we don’t put them to use for the betterment of the world and humankind, they will lose their worth. What is worse is that a lot of other people would have wanted to have them because their sense of mission is stronger than ours. We will all be ACCOUNTABLE to the giver of gifts when our time on earth is up (Matthew 25: 28-30).

If a parent pays much attention to what their children are doing at home and in school, they will find out where their children are gifted. Parents are not to force their children to hone gifts their children do not have just because they themselves would have wanted to have such opportunities. The gifts given by God have a PURPOSE. These gifts help us discover our mission in life and pursuing our mission is what will give worth to our lives and help us experience true happiness and peace. As someone said – when we choose a vocation in life, we do not choose upon which we would please ourselves, but upon which we will be of best service to the world. Hopefully, Christian parents will see their important role in the future of their children.

Teach us Lord, to make the most of our time on earth!
