Gospel Reading for October 9, 2024 – Luke 11: 1-4
BRIDGE
Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.” He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Father, hallowed be your name, your Kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and do not subject us to the final test.”

Jesus taught us first of all, to pray to his Father just as he himself always prayed to the Father. Jesus truly is the BRIDGE that connects us to the Father. He is our INTERCESSOR to the Father. No one, other than Jesus, no superpower or even the prophets, could be the BRIDGE because he and the Father are one (John 10: 30).
His Father is the source of all goodness, hence, everything we need for goodness to prevail on earth, we can ask from him.
How blessed are we that the Son of God allowed us to call his Father, our Father, therefore making us members of God’s Family.
Let us ponder on this song written by Sister Irene O’Connor, FMM under the pseudonym Myriam Frances, IN GOD’S FAMILY –
We are happy Christians,
all united in the Lord,
we belong to one family;
Jesus Christ has chosen us
to carry out his life,
over every land and sea.
From the north and from the south
and from the east and west,
He has called us all together.
And we are delighted,
that we are united,
Into God’s own family:
And we are delighted,
that we are united,
Into God’s own family.
Now as Christians
we must try to live the Gospel life,
living in simplicity:
We will share the goods we have,
with everyone in need,
such is Christ-like charity.
We are grateful that God
called us to his way of life
in the footsteps of our Saviour.
And we are delighted,
that we are united,
Into God’s own family:
And we are delighted,
that we are united,
Into God’s own family.
