WE ARE NOT GOD
Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God
The shepherds went in haste to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child. All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them.
When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

There are those who are against this title of Mary, saying that God cannot have a mother, because he is God. Of course, this is true, unless he did not have to be born human. The mystery of the Incarnation is one of the many mysteries that we will never be able to fully grasp and understand because it is not meant to be. Why is that? It is simply because WE ARE NOT GOD.
So, instead of breaking our heads over this mystery, we have to understand that the title, MARY, MOTHER OF GOD is not really about Mary, but about Jesus. His having a human mother means that indeed, the Son of God became man.
But, we also have to honor Mary, for the many sacrifices she had to go through, being the mother of Jesus; the many times she couldn’t understand what was happening, but her faith in God was so steadfast that she just kept them in her heart. And, let us not forget the sacrifices that a mother has to go through – from conception, to birth, to breastfeeding, to attending to the growing up needs of a child, and so on and so forth. Sometimes, we take these things for granted, but if the sacrifice of an ordinart mother is such, what more, being the mother of the Son of God!
Mary, we thank you for all you’ve done for your Son Jesus!
