Caritas Manila will hold this year’s “YSLEP Back to School Telethon 2017” to be aired over Radio Veritas846 and with live telecast over TV Maria on June 5, 2017.
Veritas846 will start its special programming for the YSLEP telethon at 6:00am with anchors, Ms. Jing Manipol Lanzona and Fr. Nono Alfonso, SJ who will introduce listeners to what is YSLEP all about. They will also give preview on last year’s telethon for education. They will feature interviews with Basilan Bishop Most Rev. Martin Jumoad, D.D. as well as YSLEP program manager, Ms. Helen Oreto and some YSLEP scholars.
New YSLEP graduates Sweetzel Llorica who graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Notre Dame of Kidapawan College and Jonathan Ytang who graduated Magna Cum Laude from De La Salle University will share their stories as YSLEP scholars from 8:00am to 10:00am with Ms. Angelique Lazo.
Meanwhile, Pamilya mo, Pamilya ko anchors, Bernard Cańaberal and MK Guano will interview Caritas Manila Executive Director Rev. Fr. Anton C.T. Pascual who will talk about the spirituality of stewardship. Caritas Manila donors and benefactors are also invited to share their stories to celebrate the spirit of giving.
After the Eucharistic Celebration at 12:15nn to be presided by Fr. Pascual, YSLEP telethon will also have a simultaneous broadcast over TV Maria from 1:15pm to 3:00pm.
Dennis “Ka Dune” Geron will sit as anchor from 1:15pm to 3:00pm and will feature interviews with the outstanding YSLEP graduates. Radio Veritas anchor, Riza Mendoza will talk to the successful YSLEP graduates who are now giving back by helping and supporting other scholars through Caritas Manila Alumni Scholars Association (CAMASA) from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.The special programming will wrap up with an update of the total donations raised at 6:00 pm.
Several song numbers to be performed by some of the talented YSLEP scholars are also lined-up for each segments of the whole day telethon.
YSLEP is the flagship program of Caritas Manila that extends financial assistance to poor but deserving youth, trains and hones the youth not only for academic excellence but also to become servant leaders and good members of the community.
To date, Caritas Manila has produced over 10,000 graduates and continues to provide educational assistance, values formation workshops, and leadership trainings to almost 5,000 students nationwide.
“We at Caritas Manila believe that education is the best way to liberate families from poverty and we all can help to make it possible. Please support YSLEP to send more youth to school and help reduce poverty,” Fr. Pascual said.
