Radio Veritas 846, the number one faith-based AM radio station in the Philippines, invites all its listeners to attend the Ash Wednesday Mass to be presided by Auxiliary Bishop of Manila Most Rev. Broderick Pabillo, D.D., 12 nn at the Our Lady of Veritas Chapel located at second floor of Veritas Tower, 162 West Avenue corner EDSA, in Quezon City.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a season of fasting and abstinence, reflection and prayer. It takes place 46 days (40 days not counting Sundays) before our Lord Jesus Christ’s Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
The norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards.
On this day, the faithful wear ashes on their foreheads as a reminder of human sinfulness, mortality, and as a sign of mourning and repentance to God.
The ashes are made from the palms blessed in the previous Palm Sunday that symbolizes the dust from which God made us.
On the same day, devotees of St. Therese of the Child Jesus from Lisieux, France may pray before her pilgrim relics at the Veritas chapel from 9 am to 2 pm.
