“My dear brothers and sisters join us in the celebration of Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy as we visit the churches of Mercy in the Archdiocese of Manila to spiritually gain the plenary indulgences attached with the Jubilee Year celebrations,” Fr. Pascual said.
In the Bull of Indiction of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, Misericordiae Vultus, His Holiness Pope Francis emphasized the importance of pilgrimage in the Holy year.
“The practice of pilgrimage has a special place in the Holy Year, because it represents the journey each of us makes in this life… This will be a sign that mercy is also a goal to reach and requires dedication and sacrifice. May pilgrimage be an impetus to conversion: by crossing the threshold of the Holy Door, we will find the strength to embrace God’s mercy and dedicate ourselves to being merciful with others as the Father has been with us,” Pope Francis said.
In his letter, “According to which an indulgence is granted to the faithful on the occasion of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy,” Pope Francis also said that to experience and to obtain the Indulgence, the faithful are called to make a brief pilgrimage to the Holy Door, open in every Cathedral or in the churches designated by the Diocesan Bishop, as a sign of the deep desire for true conversion.
In order to obtain a plenary indulgence, the faithful must commit to avoiding all sins, even venial, sacramentally confess their sins, receive the Holy Communion, and pray for the Pope and his prayer intentions.
