Radio Veritas is inviting the devotees of Saint Ezekiel Moreno to venerate his image and second class relic from August 10 to 19, 2016 at the Radio Veritas Chapel.
Saint Ezekiel was a Spanish Augustinian Recollect who was sent to the Philippines in 1870, He was ordained priest in Manila the following year. He served as a missionary in the Philippines for 15 years before he returned to Spain to serve as prior in Monteagudo for three years. In 1894, he was named as the first Vicar Apostolic of Casanare, and ordained bishop of Pasto. During this time there was war in Colombia. Bishop Moreno showed himself a voice of strength for his people. In mid-1905, he was diagnosed to have cancer in the palate. He was operated on but without success he journeyed back to Monteagudo where he died on August 19, 1906.
He was beatified in 1975 and canonized in the Dominican Republic by Saint Pope John Paul II in 1992 at the closing of the 5th Century Celebration of the Evangelization of Latin America. The Saint Pope proclaimed him as a fitting model for all bishops.
“Saint Ezekiel Moreno, by his life and evangelizing work, is a model for pastors, especially those of Latin America, who, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit wish to respond with new zeal, new means and a new expression to the great challenges which confront the Church of Latin America,” Saint Pope John Paul II said.
Saint Ezekiel Moreno is the patron saint of cancer. His feast day is celebrated on August 19, 2016.
Radio Veritas President Rev. Fr. Anton CT Pascual said that the station has been exhibiting Marian images and relics of the saints in the chapel for public veneration to help strengthen the faith of the people.
“We aim to inspire the faithful to pray for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the saints to ask for the grace of God and to inspire them to live a faith-filled life,” Fr. Pascual said.
The image and relic of Saint Ezekiel Moreno will be available for public veneration from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm at the Radio Veritas Chapel located at the second floor of Veritas Tower, 162 West Avenue cor EDSA in Quezon City.
