Bacacay, Albay celebrates centuplex of priestly vocation
Bacacay, Albay in the Diocese of Legazpi is celebrating double Jubilee this year, the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy and the Year of Thanksgiving for the gift of a hundredfold of priestly vocation.
As the town’s people of Bacacay celebrate the feast of St. Rose of Lima from August 29 to 31, they are also rejoicing the upsurge of priestly vocation in the town.
Bacacay is said to be the cradle of priestly vocation in the region with 101 priests and 3 deacons from their town including Radio Veritas Vice President Rev. Fr. Roy Bellen and Catholic Media Network President Rev. Fr. Paulo Barandon, as well as two retired Bishops of Legazpi Bishop Emeritus Lucilo Quiambao D.D. and Bishop Emeritus Jose Sorra D.D. who both stay at Bethelehem Retreat House in Sogod, Bacacay.
To talk about more about the celebration of this divine gift of hundredfold blessing from God, Rev. Msgr. Cris Bernarte Jr., St. Rose of Lima Parish Priest will have an interview over Veritas Pilipinas at 6:30am on August 30, 2016. Updates and reports about the activities of the celebration in Bacacay will also be aired over Radio Veritas.
Bishop Emeritus Quiambao will preside the Thanksgiving Mass at the St. Rose of Lima Parish on August 31, 2016 at 8:00 am. The mass will be aired over Radio Veritas the same day at 12:00nn.
The town of Bacacay in Albay was a mission area or “Visita” of the Franciscan friars who were based at the parish of Tabaco City which was then also a “Visita” of the parish of Camalig, Albay until 1616. Bacacay eventually became a parish in 1660. St. Rose of Lima was canonized later by Pope Clement in 1671 and thereafter became the Patron Saint of Bacacay, Albay.
