Naka-antabay ang Caritas Internationalis at ang iba’t-ibang Caritas Organization sa buong mundo sa sitwasyon at kalagayan ng mga naapektuhan ng magnitude 7.2 na lindol sa Haiti.
Sa inilabas na ulat ng Caritas Internationalis, nagpahayag ito ng pagkabahala sa sitwasyon sa Haiti kung saan iniulat ng Caritas Haiti na tatlong diyosesis sa lugar ang labis na naapektuhan at isang pari ang naitalang nasawi.
Binanggit din sa ulat ng Caritas Haiti na sugatan si Cardinal Chibly Langlois ng Les Cayes bagamat nasa ligtas na siyang kalagayan ngayon matapos na masira ang kanyang tahanan dahil sa malakas na paglindol.
Kumikilos na ang Caritas Haiti upang makapangalap ng sapat na impormasyon sa epekto ng lindol sa nasabing bansa bagamat unang naitala na umabot na sa 227 ang nasawi.
Kaugnay nito, naka-monitor din ang Caritas Philippines sa sitwasyon sa Haiti at inaasahan na maglalabas din ito ng mensahe ng pakikiisa sa Caritas Haiti.
“Based on information from Caritas Haiti, the three dioceses (Jeremy, Anse-à-Veau and Miragoâne and Les Cayes) are the worst affected and the situation is complex with difficulties to move around. People have left their homes and are in the streets or are in the open fields for fear of the many shocks that still continue. The Bishop’s House has been destroyed and one priest was killed. The Cardinal was taken out safely and escaped with some injuries. He is currently safe with Fr.Hervé. The Caritas Haiti Emergency Officer is organizing the collection of data from affected dioceses and by evening local time they should be able to share some specific information on the exact nature of the disaster and the crisis situation. At the moment it is difficult to assess the actual degree of casualties and damage as well as in terms of the capacity to respond to the crisis. It is becoming apparent though that access to the three dioceses is difficult at this time. Mathusan is a obligatory access road leading to the south is closed for security reasons and this is going to be a major obstacle. Flights may be the safest solution. In terms of goverment response, the government has not yet been formed. This situation may further complicate the disaster response in an already challenging context.
