The Diocese of San Pablo, in its Golden Jubilee Year Celebration, will host the 10th Southern Luzon Tagalog Region (SOLTARE) Cup from October 17 to 20, 2016.
Members of the clergy from the Dioceses of Lucena, San Jose, Boac, Infanta, San Pablo, Gumaca, Imus, and Calapan will gather in Villa Evanzueda in Brgy. San Ignacio, San Pablo, Laguna to participate in the 2016 SOLTARE cup with the theme, “Sampu sa Ikalimampu.”
Fourteen (14) sports events will be contested in the four-day athletic cup including basketball, volleyball, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, billiards, bowling, swimming, darts, chess, dama, Games of the Generals, scrabble and a tour in Tayak Hill or Pandin Lake.
There will also be cultural shows, provincial and local talents, group dancing competition, celebrity night, and many more activities for each night of the sports fest.
His Holiness Pope Francis said in his meeting with the coaches and athletes of Lazio Sports Society, an organization that was open to everyone and upheld sports’ ethical and moral values said that Sports done right helps build a more caring, brotherly and just world that helps overcome human and social disadvantage.
SOLTARE cup is a festival of indoor and outdoor games aimed to promote camaraderie and solidarity within and among the clergy of Southern Tagalog. It was originated in 2007, during the Holy Retreat of the Clergy of the suffragan dioceses of the Archdiocese of Lipa at Queen Margaret Hotel, Lucena City.
The Diocese of San Pablo is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Manila and the only diocese in the province of Laguna. The Diocese of San Pablo was erected by the Apostolic Letter Ecclesianum Perempla on November 28, 1966 comprising San Pablo City and the entire province of Laguna. Most Rev. Buenaventura M. Famadico, D.D. is the current bishop of the diocese which celebrates its 50th founding anniversary this year.
