Mapagkumbabang lingkod ng simbahan ang yumaong si Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal.
Ito ayon kay Cotabato Archbishop Orlando Cardinal Quevedo na isang malapit na kaibigan ni Cardinal Vidal.
Ayon kay Cardinal Quevedo, higit ang kanyang paghanga sa namayapang si Cardinal Vidal dahil sa kaniyang pagpapakumbaba.
“I’m deeply sad about the passing away of Cardinal Vidal. He had been suffering a lot in the past several years, but especially in these past few months. It was expected that he will past away sooner or later. But when he did pass away, it is still a lot of sadness for me. He was a special friend, he was my idol as a bishop because he was…he did not act as Prince of the Church as a cardinal. He acted as a servant leader. He was very humble, he avoided the limelight. He was a low profile type of servant leader,” ayon kay Cardinal Quevedo sa panayam ng Radio Veritas.
Dagdag pa ni Cardinal Quevedo, bagama’t inaasahan na ang pagpanaw ni Cardinal Vidal dahil sa matagal na nitong karamdaman ay nakakalungkod pa ring isipin ang pagpanaw nito.
“And it is very sad for me to see him pass away and the last time I met him, in a mutual friends house and I knew that it’s going to be soon that he would be passing away. And so I pray and the Mindanao Sulu Pastoral Conference which is meeting now in Davao City prayed for him and I offered a mass for him during this conference,” ayon pa kay Cardinal Quevedo.
Nakakatiyak din si Cardinal Quevedo na nakita ng Panginoon ang kabutihan at kababang loob ni Cardinal Vidal na ngayon ay kasama na ng Diyos sa kaharian na inilaan para sa lahat ng kaniyang mga tagasunod.
Nagpaabot naman si Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle ng pagdadalamhati sa pagpanaw ni Cardinal Vidal.
“The Archdiocese of Manila is united with the whole Church especially the Archdiocese of Cebu in sorrow at the death of our beloved Cardinal Ricardo Vidal. We will always be thankful to God for sending us a teacher of peace and humility. We trust that the merciful Lord would grant him eternal rewards in His presence.”
Itinuturing naman ni Novaliches Bishop Antonio Tobias na malaking kawalan sa Simbahang Katolika si Cardinal Vidal.

Ipinagdarasal naman ng Diocese of Kidapawan at Diocese of Malaybalay ang eternal repose ng kaluluwa ni Cardinal Vidal.
“Diocese of Kidapawan prays for the eternal repose of the soul of Cardinal Vidal. We have lost a very influential church voice in the public square. He had spoken in defense of the sanctity of human life and sacredness of marriage vs issues on reproductive health and on legalization of divorce. Ang labi ni Cardinal Vidal ay nakalagak sa Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral kung saan idinaraos ang misa tuwing alas-8 ng gabi.
Sa October 21-araw ng Sabado, mula alas-7 ng umaga hanggang alas-7 ng gabi mananatili ang labi ni Cardinal Vidal sa St. Pedro Calungsod Shrine.
Itinakda naman ang libing ng yumaong Cardinal sa ika-26 ng Oktubre dakong alas-9 ng umaga sa Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.
