Cubao Bishop Most Rev. Fr. Honesto Ongtioco, D.D. and Serviam Catholic Charismatic Community Servant Leader Leonardo “Ding” Sanchez advised the electorates to consider candidate who are stewards prioritizing the common good over self-interest in the seventh Veritas Servant Leadership Halalan Forum 2016.
Sanchez defined stewardship as responsible management of something that is in trusted to a person. He also added that stewardship connotes “service over self-interest”.
“Yung stewardship kasi pwedeng idefine yan na “maingat at masinsinang pangangasiwa ng mga bagay-bagay na pinagkatiwala sa’yo. Hindi naman talaga sa’yo to e. Somebody from the higher authority, binigyan ka nito kaya dapat pangalagaan mo ‘to para sa kapakanan ng iba, kelangan it has to be service over self-interest, serbisyo bago ang interest na pansarili,” Sanchez said.
Bishop Ongtioco said that abiding only by the laws set by man or by the government is incomplete stewardship.
“Pag sinabi mong complete stewardship I think we have to bring in God. He is the source of everything. Yung pananampalataya ay mahalaga, that’s a key sa stewardship. I think my faith will help me define the concept of stewardship. Everything belongs to God, we are just stewards,” Bishop Ongtioco explained.
Bishop Ongtionco also believed that political dynasty opposes the principle of stewardship because it limits equal opportunity to lead.
“Parang insult naman sa mga Pilipino (ang political dynasty). Parang akala mo ‘yung ability to lead, mamuno ng maayos ay para sa isang pamilya lang. Ang daming mga qualified din na dapat bigyan ng pagkakataon. Pero kung gumagawa ka ng paraan para masolo mo yun, I think that limits the progress and karapatan din ng ibang tao kaya basically, that’s against the principle of stewardship,” Bishop Ongtionco said.
Sanchez advised the electorates to choose a righteous candidate who will rightfully govern the country.
“Ngayong nalalapit na tayo sa halalan, nais kong manawagan sa ating mga botante na sana isalang-alang nila yung paalala sa atin ni Santo Papa Francisco, na pumili tayo ng mga isusulat natin sa balota, yung mga taong iluloklok natin sa posisyon dapat we should select righteous men and women who will rightfully govern our country. Mga taong masasabi nating tunay na makaDiyos, makatao, makabayan at makakalikasan at people who we can really consider as a mapag lingkod na mga pinuno, servant leaders in the real sense of the world,” Sanchez said.
Bishop Ongtionco meanwhile, urged the voting public to listen to their conscience and pray for guidance in choosing the right candidate to vote for.
“We should exert more effort. Magdasal tayo, mag-isip at magpatulong sa banal na ispiritu upang pumili sa mga nararapat na kandidato hindi dahil sa pera, hindi dahil sa impluwensya, but I think let us use our conscience God gave us. Binigyan po tayo ng kaisipan, konsensya para talagang makapili tayo,” Bishop said.
