David was such a thoughtful, sweet and a kind person. He was always sensitive to the people who had done good to him, much more, he was very thoughtful. when it came to God. He wanted to express his very best to God and he thought that the best that he could do for God was to build Him a temple.
But the more he prayed, the more David realized that he was not an architect. The more he prayed, the more he realized that he was not the one to build a church or a temple for God. It became clearer to David that his expertise was war. Therefore, God made him win all his battles for he was a good warrior and, through David, God blessed Israel with peace.
David was also a good poet and he wrote psalms. The psalms that we hear day by day everytime we have Mass, those are attributed to David. He was a good poet but he was not a good architect.
The task of building the temple was not marked for David but for Solomon. Solomon was very poor in war, writing and poetry. But Solomon was a good artist and he was the one to build the temple.
We please God by doing our best. You please God by doing what you think you are capable of doing the best. We cannot please God by sulking or by saying: ” How come they are so good in singing and I am not?”, ” How come their faces are so beautiful and my face is not as pretty? ” or ” How come they are so good in public speaking and I stutter everytime I face the public? “. We cannot please God by sulking or by envying other people. We please God by doing what we think we are best in doing. We all have things we can do best, things other people cannot do as well. We all have those gifts. But the problem with us is we think “the grass is always greener at the other side of the fence.”
Let us thank the Lord for the warrior and poet David. Let us thank the Lord for the artist Solomon. Let us thank the Lord for the little talents He has given us. Let us be the best of what God has given us.
DO YOUR BEST
