Sinuspinde ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources ang Environmental Compliance Certificate ng housing project ng Century Communities Corporation sa La Mesa Watershed.
Ayon kay DENR Sec. Gina Lopez, hindi dapat payagan ang anumang uri ng infrastructure developments sa loob ng watershed dahil dito nakadepende ang supply ng tubig ng 12-milyong mamamayan.
Nilinaw rin ng kalihim na isa itong special case dahil bagamat pribado ang lupang tatayuan ng housing project ay hindi parin ito maaaring basta na lamang pahintulutan lalo na’t ang buhay ng mas nakararami ang maaapektuhan.
“Even in private land you cannot do anything there which may adversely affect the greater good, for example there is a private land in the watershed you cannot just do whatever you want there because that is the reason why there is flooding in Manila, so we’re looking into that so if the private land is in the watershed there is a special responsibility in this country as enshrined in the constitution public good reigns supreme,” pahayag ng kalihim.
58 hektarya ang lawak ng housing project na nakatakdang ipatayo para sa mga empleyado ng Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System.
Sa kasalukuyan hinihintay pa ng ahensya ang magiging tugon ng MWSS sa ibinaba nitong suspension sa ECC.
