Gospel Reading for July 2, 2024 – Matthew 8: 23-27

FAMILY

As Jesus got into a boat, his disciples followed him. Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by waves; but he was asleep. They came and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” He said to them, “Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?” Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm. The men were amazed and said, “What sort of man is this, whom even the winds and the sea obey?”

————

Yes, Lord, save us for we perish!

The FAMILY today, is the boat that is being swamped by waves. As it is, it is already a big challenge for many families to make both ends meet given our economic conditions. To make matters worse, we have lawmakers who are wanting to enact laws that will be detrimental to the well-being of families, instead of enacting laws that will protect and preserve the family. When couples are having trouble in their relationship, the right thing to do is find out where the trouble is coming from and find ways to correct it. You cannot correct a wrong thing with another wrong thing. It will just make matters worse.

The FAMILY is the nucleus of society, therefore, it’s well-being is very important to have a healthy society.

Let us wake up Jesus, with this Prayer of Enlightenment of our Leaders –
God, our loving father, you have given us the
precious gift of family in our society.
Bless our family with your protection, guidance
and strength in these challenging times.
We come before you seeking the enlightenment
of our leaders as they make decisions that
impact the lives of many.
Touch their hearts and minds to recognize
the importance of upholding the sanctity of
marriage and family.
Grant them wisdom and understanding
to make choices that promote healing,
reconciliation, and love in every family
in the society.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer
for the enlightenment of our leaders.
Guide their hearts and minds so that they
make decisions that align with the will of God in our lives.
Amen.
