GOD ALONE SUFFICES
Some Pharisees came to Jesus and said, “Go away, leave this area because Herod wants to kill you.” He replied, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and I perform healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I accomplish my purpose. Yet I must continue on my way today, tomorrow, and the following day, for it is impossible that a prophet should die outside of Jerusalem.’
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how many times I yearned to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were unwilling! Behold, your house will be abandoned. But I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.”

It is very important to focus on the goal/mission and not on those who try to stop us from pursuing our goal/mission. Otherwise, we will not be able to reach our goal or fulfill the mission given by God to us. Many a fight were lost because one party lost confidence in the ability to win. For us Christians, while we live on earth, we are in a never-ending battle with the evil one, but we should never lose confidence in our ability to win because it is the omnipotent God who is on our side. As St. Teresa of Avila wrote in the fly leaf of her prayerbook – GOD ALONE SUFFICES!
Let us reflect on the English Translation of the Spanish prayer –
Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you.
Everything passes;
God does not change.
Patience achieves everything.
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
GOD ALONE SUFFICES.
