Gospel Reading for December 10, 2024 – Matthew 18: 12-14

GREAT IMPORTANCE

Jesus said to his disciples: “What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray. In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost.”

————

That is, if the man is like Jesus, the Good Shepherd. There are those of us who couldn’t care less if one gets lost. I still have ninety-nine anyway! Then, there are those of us who wouldn’t stop searching until we find the one that got lost. For God, every human being is of equal importance. He loves all of us equally. He doesn’t play favourites. It is of GREAT IMPORTANCE that we don’t get lost. Otherwise, why did he sacrifice his own Son to save humankind? If the Father did not love us greatly, he would not have sent his Son and let him go through all the difficulties of being our Saviour. If the Father did not love us greatly, he would just bring to heaven those faithful to him after their life on earth and let those unfaithful to him to just rot in hell!

Jesus, Lord and Saviour, we ask you to help us along the way as we journey on earth..
