“There’s a need to surrender our memory to God so that the devil will not use it against us.”
This was the statement of Rev. Fr. Winston Cabading, O.P., an Exorcist of Manila and UST Secretary General in his talk about the, “Angelology and Demonology” during the recently concluded National Conference on the Fundamentals of the Ministry of Spiritual Liberation and Exorcism at the University of Santo Tomas.
He explained that the devil can attack the memory by entrapment experimentation trying to know our sins even though these have been confessed and absolved and the best way to protect ourselves from this entrapment is to surrender our memories to God.
Fr. Cabading cited situations during exorcisms wherein the evil one would randomly “throw at us” negative emotions or thoughts in the hope of entrapping our reactions to it—reactions which would denote our culpability to a sin that emotion or thought is attributable to. Therefore, it brings to the fore memories one has of having committed such a sin.
He also mentioned the common reason why priests run away from being an Exorcist is the misconception that the evil one will blurt out their sins to shame them during the rite of Exorcism. However, this is not true since God would completely erase one’s sins in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
During his talk, he elaborately explained the nature and hierarchy of angels and the history of fallen angels (Satan and his minions) based from the Book of Revelations. He also gave a talk entitled, “Different Prayers of Liberation and the Roman Ritual,” during the Conference.
Other topics discussed in the conference were “Exorcism, The Ministry of Christ” by Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s Rector Rev. Fr. Clarence Marquez, OP; “Exorcism, The Ministry of the Church” by Archdiocese of Manila’s Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo, D.D.; “Liturgical and Canonical Dimensions” by Diocese of Cubao’s Exorcist Rev. Roberto de la Cruz; and “Sacraments and Sacramentals” and “Mary and the Saints” by Diocese of Pasig’s Exorcist Rev. Fr. Daniel Estacio.

Jeffrey Grob, JCD talked about “Cults and the Occults” while UST’s Department of Neurosciences Chair Dr. Ramon Javier, with Guidance and Counseling experts Ms. Rebecca Esguerra and Ms. Milagros Reyes discussed the Psychiatric & Psychological Dimensions”.
