Gospel Reading for October 28, 2024 – Luke 6: 12-16

OMNISCIENT

Jesus went up to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called a Zealot, and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

————

The gospel reading for today is in celebration of the Feast of Sts. Simon and Jude, two of the twelve apostles of Jesus. What is striking though, is that he spent the night in prayer to God before he called the twelve.

How important it is for us to spend time in prayer before making decisions that will impact our lives. Sometimes, we think we already know what to do and do not need the help of the Holy Spirit. We are forgetting that we are not God and are not OMNISCIENT like him. We are so blessed God’s Spirit was sent to us and continues to be present among us – to aid us in all our needs. If we sincerely ask help from his Spirit and have faith that God knows best, things will not be very difficult for us despite life’s challenges.

Sts. Simon and Jude, pray for us!
