Gospel Reading for May 4, 2024 – John 15: 18-21
TREND
Jesus said to his disciples: “If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you. Remember the word I spoke to you, ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me.”

When we are practicing Christians, we really have to expect to have haters, bashers, etc.. This is because of the lessening of moral values nowadays, when more and more countries are passing laws legalizing acts not only for adults but even including children, that are considered against Christian values. The worst part is that it is becoming a TREND. Can we imagine a world where being a disciple of Satan is a TREND? If this continues, Humanity will self destruct someday, but hopefully not yet, as long as Jesus will continue to gain disciples who will not allow this to happen, and those who are already his disciples will be faithful to his teachings. Jesus’ gift of salvation is a work in progress up to the end of our lives on earth. We are so blessed to be given endless chances to live in eternity!
Let us reflect on this song written by John Michael Talbot, BE NOT AFRAID –
You shall cross the barren desert
but you shall not die of thirst.
You shall wander far in safety
though you do not know the way.
You shall speak your words in foreign lands
and all will understand.
You shall see the face of God and live!
Be not afraid.
I go before you always.
Come follow me
and I will give you rest.
Blessed are your poor,
for the kingdom shall be theirs.
Blessed are you that weep and mourn
for one day you shall laugh.
And if wicked men insult and
hate you all because of me,
blessed, blessed are you!
Be not afraid.
I go before you always.
Come follow me
and I will give you rest!
