As Radio Veritas aims to reach the “unchurched” Catholics in the Philippines and bring them back to active involvement to the Church through media ministry by 2021 to celebrate as a nation the Quincentennial of the coming of Christianity, the station will launch, “Veritas 500: Bringing Jesus in every Catholic home”. Part of its launch is a whole day telethon from 6:00am to 6:00pm on December 8, 2016.
The launch of the evangelization campaign coincides with the feast of the Immaculate Conception, the title of the Blessed Virgin Mary declared as the Patroness of the Philippines by Pope Pius XII through the Papal Bull, “Impositi Nobis” in 1942, since history conveys that Blessed Virgin Mary played a significant role in the conversion of the Philippines to the Catholic faith. Also, a special love and devotion to Blessed Virgin Mary marks Filipino life and history.
The telethon will kick off with a special programming at 6:00am through the news and public affairs program, “Veritas Pilipinas” with anchors, Ms. Jing Manipol Lanzona and Msgr. Pepe Quitorio. They will talk about preparations being made by the Archdiocese of Cebu, (the place where Christian faith first spread to other islands) for the 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines with guest Most Rev. Jose Palma, D.D., Archbishop of Cebu. They will also interview Radio Veritas President Rev. Fr. Anton C.T. Pascual for his in-depth account on the Veritas 500 campaign.
The public affairs program, “Barangay Simbayan” from 8am to 10am, with Ms. Angelique Lazo and guest anchor, Dr. Clifford Sorita will focus on the plans of Radio Veritas for the next 5 years as part of the preparations for the 500 years of Christianity with the station’s heads and officers. Meanwhile, the magazine program, “Pamilya Mo, Pamilya Ko”, with anchors, Bernard Canaberal, Jovie Barreto and Fr. Dars Cabral will feature families supporting the Church Media ministry as Kapanalig members.
At 12:00nn, a Eucharistic celebration to be presided by Most Rev. Teodoro Bacani, D.D. will mark the launch of Veritas 500 campaign.
Ka Dune Geron and Ms. Lany Cabral-Salonga will continue the special programming through the public service program, “Caritas sa Veritas”. They will feature testimonies of Kapanalig members assisted by the social services program of the station. Radio Veritas advocates Rowel Garcia and Marian Pulgo will wrap up the special programming from 5pm to 6pm with a program, “Damayan sa Himpilan ng Katotohanan”.
All throughout the day, testimonies from Kapanalig members will also be featured. A special page about the Veritas 500 campaign is also available at the website, veritas846.ph/veritas500.
Fr. Pascual encourages the Catholic faithful to take part in the historic movement in the Catholic Church.
“Please support Veritas 500 and together, as Kapanalig, let’s spread the love, truth and justice to our brothers and sisters who have drifted from the Church through new ardor, methods and expression,” Fr. Pascual said.
Listeners can participate and donate in the telethon by calling 925-7932 locals 116, 119, 124, 125, and 128. Phone lines will be open throughout the live broadcast on Radio Veritas 846 and also via livestreaming at www.veritas846.ph.
