Gospel Reading for September 13, 2024 – Luke 6: 39-42

WASTE OF TIME

Jesus told his disciples a parable: “Can a blind person guide a blind person? Will not both fall into a pit? No disciple is superior to the teacher; but when fully trained, every disciple will be like his teacher. Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own? How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove that splinter in your eye,’ when you do not even notice the wooden beam in your own eye? You hypocrite! Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter in your brother’s eye.”

————

Most, if not all of us who tend to find fault in others are the ones who are laden with the same faults but are blind to them. It probably is what is called, Projection. Most, if not all of us who tend to gossip about the problematic lives of others, are those whose lives are laden with problems that we are unable to handle. It probably is what is called, Denial. Perhaps, it is because we do not want to be alone in our misery that’s why we have to include others who are on the same boat. It may be due to Monophobia, or the fear of being alone. Perhaps, it is because we want to look better than others, as the Pharisees did in Jesus’ time. It is called Hypocrisy.

Whatever the reasons are, it is WASTE OF TIME because we have control only of ourselves.

Lord, help us not be afraid to look at ourselves and our lives and know that when we surrender ourselves and our lives to you, we will be able to change what has to be changed in us!

Sharing the song, LITTLE BY LITTLE by Colin Buchanan –
Little by little everyday;
Little by little in every way;
Jesus is changing me.
He’s changing me.
Since I made that turn about face,
I’ve been growing in His grace;
Jesus is changing me.
He’s changing me, my precious Saviour;
I’m not the same person that I used to be.
Well, it’s been slow going;
But still there’s knowing
that someday perfect I will be!
